Near Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe Africa is an elephant sanctuary that is home to many orphaned elephants. The sanctuary has developed over the years from caring for injured and orphaned elephants to utilizing the elephants in educational programs to developing programs for ultimate release of elephants back into the wild. Only 8 elephants in the sanctuary are used to educate guests and these are the ones that we were able to walk with, touch, and feed. Their human companions work with the elephants so that the encounters with humans are safe. During the encounter, we were able to feed the elephants, but humans and elephants had to stay on their own side of a row of logs. Clearly this baby elephant still had some learning to do!
